What Is An Alginate Dressing?
Alginate dressing is a high-performance medical dressing made from natural seaweed ingredients.
Natural polysaccharide carbohydrates (mainly calcium alginate or sodium alginate) extracted from brown algae or seaweed are natural cellulose with good biocompatibility.
Composition of Alginate Dressings
The core ingredients are natural polysaccharides (such as calcium alginate and sodium alginate) extracted from brown algae or seaweed.
Main forms
Sheet: It is composed of non-woven fabric or film tape and alginate core, and some products contain isolation paper or isolation film.
Strip/bundle: A loose wool strip structure is formed by acupuncture or combing process, which is used to fill cavity wounds.
Core structure type
Type I (non-self-adhesive)
Structural composition: Medical soft polyurethane sponge is made by soaking and drying in alginate solution, without self-adhesive layer.
Type II (self-adhesive)
Structural composition: It is composed of pressure-sensitive adhesive non-woven fabric, alginate sponge layer and glassine paper, and contains an adhesive layer for easy fixation.
Additional functional layer: Some products add silver ions or antibacterial ingredients to enhance the antibacterial effect.
Functional adaptation design
Sheet : The surface is flat, suitable for covering superficial wounds, and has high fit.
Strip: The strip structure has strong plasticity and can fit tightly to deep cavities, reducing tissue residue.

Applicable scenarios
1. Exudative wounds : such as pressure sores, venous ulcers, burn wounds and other medium to severe exudative wounds 35.
2. Cavity wounds : such as sinus tracts, abscesses and other deep wounds that need to be filled 56.
Note : This dressing is not suitable for dry or scabbed wounds, and the replacement frequency needs to be adjusted according to the amount of exudation.
