Steps in Using Alginate Dressings
Wound preparation
1. Cleaning and disinfection
Use physiological saline or iodine to thoroughly clean the wound and remove necrotic tissue, pus and impurities.
Use sterile gauze to gently wipe the skin around the wound and keep it dry to enhance the fit of the dressing.
2. Dressing selection and cutting
Choose the dressing form according to the wound type .
Sheet type : Suitable for superficial wounds (such as abrasions, cuts, donor site wounds), directly covering the wound.
Strip/filling type : for cavity wounds (such as sinus tracts, abscesses, deep undercover wounds), it is necessary to fill from the base to reduce dead space.
When cutting, slightly larger than the wound edge, but avoid excessive dressing beyond the wound to prevent skin drying.
3. Covering and fixing

Spread the dressing flat or fill it to the wound, ensuring that it is full contact with the wound surface without leaving any gaps .
The outer layer can be fixed with sterile gauze or bandage to prevent displacement .
